Product Questions

How do I pick from the Roma, Hybrid, Natural Latex Mattress, and Organic Latex Mattress?

The Organic and Natural mattresses are our flagship products. They are fully customizable as you can order the mattress to be as soft or as firm as you’d like. They are also fully adjustable, meaning you can change the firmness, back support, pressure relief, etc. once you get the mattress in your home. Our mattress configurator generates initial recommendations that have a 90% success rate (we only have a 10% layer exchange rate and a 3%-4% return rate) so there's a 90% chance that the configurator recommends what turns out to be your ideal mattress. You also have the option to rearrange or replace any layers both in short-term or long-term. If, in 5 or 10 or 15 years you decide you want a softer or firmer mattress you would only have to rearrange the layers you already have, or buy a new layer instead of an entirely new mattress.

Our Roma is an enclosed mattress that is quilted on both sides and is adjusted by flipping it, where one side is softer and the other is firmer. The medium-plush side of the Roma feels very similar to the Select Sleep mattress in soft/medium/firm, and the firm-plush side of the Roma feels very similar to the Select Sleep mattress in medium/medium/firm (these are our 2 most popular setups for the Select Sleep 10” mattress). The softer side of the Roma is ideal for folks under 185 pounds, and the firmer side is ideal for folks between about 185-240 pounds. We don’t normally recommend the Roma for customers over 240 pounds because it may not be supportive enough.

Our Hybrid is an enclosed mattress that is quilted on both sides and is adjusted by flipping it (one side is softer and the other side is firmer). The Hybrid has a bouncier and springier feel similar to a traditional spring mattress with enhanced edge support. The Hybrid is an outstanding value and is ideal for people that already know they prefer the feel of a mattress with springs in it. The softer side of the Hybrid is ideal for folks under 185 pounds, and the firmer side is ideal for folks between about 185-240 pounds. We don’t normally recommend the hybrid for customers over 240 pounds because the coils may not be supportive enough.

Our 360 Pillowtop Hybrid is almost exactly the same as the regular hybrid except it has a zipper to let you access and customize the top 3” of latex and it allows you to exchange the top 3” of latex as well. If you started with a soft on top and tried it and decided you want a medium on top, you can make that change for just $30 as part of our layer exchange period as long as it’s done within the first 90 days of having the mattress. The 360 Pillowtop Hybrid also has a button-tufted top panel / cover, which offers a plusher, more luxurious feel and look.

What’s the difference between the Natural and Organic mattresses?

The Organic line's cover is organic cotton & wool. In regards to the latex, the Organic line's Dunlop is organic Dunlop and the Talalay is made with only 100% natural latex from an actual rubber tree. We have the organic line available for customers that want their mattress to be as "green" and natural as possible. If this doesn't sound like you, or if you don’t want any Talalay in the mattress, then I would save some money and go with the Natural line.

The Natural line's cover is natural cotton & wool. In regards to the latex, the Natural line's Dunlop is 100% natural and the Natural line also does not have the option for Talalay. The Natural line is for customers who want only Dunlop latex or a bit more of an inexpensive option.

What’s the difference between natural and organic latex?

For latex, the organic certification requires that less water is used in manufacturing, less electricity is used, the manufacturing plant has a smaller carbon footprint, less environmental impact, and things along those lines. They have all the same properties in terms of feel, durability, etc. This is why there isn't organic Talalay anywhere in the world. The Talalay process is more advanced and has more steps to it, and the Talalay manufacturers just can't meet the lower limits of water and electricity usage required for the organic latex certification.

Do we carry any blended or man-made latex?

We don’t carry any blended latex, so all of our latex is made using 100% natural rubber from an actual rubber tree. The end product finishes at 98% pure rubber, and the remaining 2% of ingredients are things like natural fatty acids, natural soaps, and natural reinforcing agents needed for manufacturing.

Is the wool in our covers organic?

Our organic covers are organic cotton & organic wool but the wool is not certified organic. However, we’ve found our organic wool to be superior to other organic wool that is certified organic, and that’s for a couple of reasons. Organic wool suppliers are allowed to use up to 2% polyester in their wool and still qualify for the organic certification, which helps wool suppliers save money and fill in the cover a little more. Our organic wool supplier doesn’t use any polyester whatsoever.

What’s the difference between the 7”, 9”, 10”, and 13”?

We have the 7" for customers that prefer a firm mattress or a lower profile. We have the 13" for customers that weigh over 300 pounds or want a thicker mattress. As such, our 9" and 10" mattresses are our most popular. The top layer (which is normally the softest layer) in the 9” is only 2” thick, whereas the top layer in the 10” is 3” thick. The 9" is a bit more supportive & a bit firmer while the 10" offers a bit more contour and pressure relief for your hips and shoulders than the 9".

How long does the mattress need to air out before use?

Latex mattresses are ready for use right out of the box. Latex does ‘off-gas’ because it is a natural foam made with natural latex derived from rubber trees. There are no artificial fire retardants, harmful chemicals or V.O.C.s (volatile organic compounds) present in the foam.

Does this mattress have an adjustment period or break-in period?

Yes and no. For some customers, it may take up to a month or more for your body to adjust to the new mattress. Of course, some customers are perfectly comfortable from the first night, but each person is different, and your experience may vary. We recommend you sleep on the mattress for at least 2 weeks to 30 days before making any comfort adjustments.

What should I do if I don’t like the free items (pillow or protector)?

Unfortunately, the free items delivered with the purchase are not returnable or exchangeable, so please feel free to give them away, throw them away, etc. Please also keep in mind that our shredded latex pillows are adjustable, so if they’re too thick or too firm for your preferences, you can unzip the pillowcase and remove latex shreds until you get it to the right thickness / softness.

For the Roma, how do I know which side is the softer side?

There is a tag on the head or foot of the bed that says “medium.” If that tag is facing up then the medium side is facing up, if that tag is facing down then the medium side is facing down. Also when reading the lettering “ROMA” correctly, this means the medium side is on top.

For the Hybrid, how do I know which side is the softer side?

If the word "Hybrid" that's stitched on the side of the mattress is upright, then the softer side is facing up. If the word Hybrid is upside-down then the softer side is facing down.

Do our products have any glue?

For some products, we use a non-toxic water-based glue that is GreenGuard certified against harmful chemicals and off-gassing. There are only 2 companies in the world that make Talalay latex, and they only make Twin XL and Queen size layers. As such, in order to get King and Cal. King Talalay layers, many companies have to glue two Twin XL layers together (and for Cal. King, we have to glue an extra 4” onto the end of the layers) and this is the case anywhere in the world you go to buy latex. Also, the Roma and Hybrid mattresses have some glue that helps keep the components inside in place.

What topper should I buy to make my mattress firmer?

Normally neither a firm nor extra firm topper will help beyond a negligible degree, even if you purchased a 3” extra firm Dunlop topper. Support has to come from the mattress, not from the topper. Also, latex will conform to whatever surface it is on, so if your mattress is soft or sagging the topper will take on the characteristics of your mattress. Lastly, having a top layer that is not encased with the rest of the mattress will allow that top layer enough spatial freedom to move upwards when you lay on it, making for a very plush and enveloping feel, even if it's an extra firm layer. If you want to try it though, an extra firm 3" Dunlop topper has the best chance of working out. If you get a 3” extra firm topper and find that it doesn’t work for you, you could either return it within 30 days (minus return shipping), or you can use it to build an all-latex mattress by using it as the bottom layer of an all-latex mattress.

Can I buy a latex mattress if I have latex allergies?

When people have latex allergies, they react to the proteins in latex. When latex is turned into a foam all the proteins are stripped out completely. As such, we ship mattresses to many people with latex allergies and we get zero complaints about someone having an allergic reaction. Furthermore, if you would like to have samples of our latex product, just reach out via phone or chat and we are happy to assist.

Do we use fire retardants?

We do not add or use any chemical flame retardants whatsoever. Our cotton & wool cover has 1" of wool that acts as the natural fire barrier

How much edge support does a latex mattress have?

Our mattresses have more edge support than memory foam but less edge support than a spring mattress, is the best way to put it.

The Sleep EZ Difference

What kind of mattress is a Sleep EZ Mattress?

Sleep EZ specializes in natural and organic latex mattresses. Latex is a high-quality natural foam that has unique features such as being anti-microbial, dust mite and mildew resistant, as well as being naturally breathable.

Our Select Sleep models are unique to our brand because they offer you the ability to customize your mattress, based on your individual needs. You have the ability to rearrange the layers within your mattress in the comfort of your home. The arrangement of the layers changes the support and contour of your mattress, giving you unparalleled control over your comfort.

Furthermore, we offer you a 90-day comfort guarantee, which gives you the ability to exchange comfort layers. You can purchase with confidence knowing that if your mattress is not right the first time, we will help in assisting you to achieve the perfect balance of contour and support with our comfort guarantee!

How does the Sleep EZ compare to a memory foam mattress?

Latex is a natural, non-off-gassing, open-celled foam that conforms to the body naturally. Its open-celled feature allows the foam to breathe. Therefore, it will sleep cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.

Due to its rubber cell structure, latex is a very resilient and durable foam compared to that of Memory foam and Polyfoam. Although memory foam feels comfortable at first, it sleeps hot and lacks the necessary support. Latex foam’s design offers consistent, healthy support without sacrificing comfort and contour.

Memory foam is a petroleum based Visco-elastic foam that is close-celled, and therefore traps and holds heat. The cell structure of memory foam does not have the compression strength of latex and will break down much sooner and shorten the life of the mattress.

What makes a Sleep EZ mattress different from all the rest?

At Sleep EZ we recognize that buying a mattress online is difficult, from judging comfort without feeling it first to finding the best price. The process is made more complicated by confusing marketing trying to convince people that everyone sleeps the same and that their "one-size-fits-all" mattress is the perfect mattress for you. With over 47 years of experience, we know this is not true. To address this issue, we have implemented both production and policy internally to bring balance to these difficulties.

A Sleep EZ mattress is different from its competitors because of two factors. The first is the ability to configure the mattress after purchase, which allows the mattress to change over time, just as your sleep needs do. The second is our 90-day layer exchange policy, to help make sure that you can change the mattress to be a perfect fit for you. These two aspects together take the risk out of buying online and help our customers find the perfect mattress for their specific needs, even if those needs change.

Where can I read reviews of Sleep EZ mattress lines?

We have reviews from our satisfied customers and in some cases customers who returned the mattress but had glowing remarks about our customer service. In addition, if you search the web for Sleep EZ you will find positive reviews built over 47 years of our dedication to our cherished customers. You can also read about us online!

Please note that this is something you would have to arrange for and pay for yourself. Also, any layer exchanges, returns, or warranty issues / warranty replacements would also have to go through the freight forwarder at your expense. You would have to make all of the arrangements necessary for any subsequent shipments / replacements, regardless of who's at fault and regardless of the reason for the subsequent shipment. If you'd like to continue with the order, the best place to find such a freight forwarder would be to do a google search for the terms "Freight Forwarder US to Canada" and go from there.

Can I request a specific delivery date?

Yes you can definitely delay shipping, that’s not a problem! If you have a specific delivery day in mind, just mention that in the “comments” section when going through checkout. However, please keep in mind that FedEx can be susceptible to delays while in transit which is why we are unable to guarantee a specific delivery time, but we can ensure it would arrive on or after a specified day and not earlier.

We recommend you open the mattress within one month to protect the structural integrity of the latex foam. Two months is normally the maximum, although sooner is likely better.

Returns

We’re confident you’ll love your Sleep EZ mattress, but if you don’t, let us know within 90 days of receiving your mattress and you may return it with no questions asked. Please call us first at 480-966-8785 to notify us of your return and we will process your request and issue your return labels. You will only be charged a flat-rate $99.00 return fee if you use the original Sleep EZ boxes and return labels. If you did not keep your original boxes and need to purchase boxes, we can help to recommend boxes that meet the size requirement.

Do I have to ship it back in its original box if I decide to return?

We recommend that you keep your original boxes. If you are unable to keep your original boxes, you can call our office at 800-710-9846, and we will be happy to assist you with required box sizes/dimensions should you decide to return your mattress. Queen Romas and smaller, Hybrid mattresses, and the RV mattress do not need to be shipped back. We ask that you donate those to a local charity and email us the proof of donation.

How long after purchase can I request a refund?

You can request a refund of your purchase up to 90 days after the date your order was placed. We only ask that you at least try your Sleep EZ mattress for 30 days. Before initiating your return we want you to take advantage of the options available for adjusting the comfort to your needs. First option is to unzip your cover and change the stacking order of the individual layer. See our video section for help in this area. Your second option, should you not attain your preferred comfort by rearranging layers, is to request a swap out layer of a different firmness for one of your existing layers. That is the beauty of our Select Sleep design and why it has been so successful for the past 20+ years on the internet.

If together, we have exhausted all options and you wish to return the mattress please call us at 800-710-9846 or email Support@SleepEZ.com and we will assist you in the return process.

What are my costs when returning a mattress?

If all adjustment options have been attempted and the mattress is not a good fit for you, your total cost is a flat $99 return fee. We pay all the shipping charges as long as the mattress is returned in proper boxes. If you ship your order back in too many boxes, in any oversized boxes, or if you would like FedEx to pick the boxes up from you, there would be extra charges on top of the $99 return fee.

What do I do with my old mattress?

We suggest you donate it to the Salvation Army or your local Saint Vincent de Paul Society. For Salvation Army go to http://satruck.org. These two excellent organizations will do most of the work of disposing of your old mattress at no cost. We've also worked with local churches and homeless shelters to pick up the old mattresses. Call or email us if you need some donation location suggestions. Otherwise, we can arrange for a mattress removal on your behalf for $120.

Why do we have a return fee when other companies don’t?

Just to help cover a portion of our losses. We're still a family owned and factory direct business. Also, many other companies will inflate their prices and not charge a return fee, but at that point every customer pays a return fee, in a sense. For us, only the customers that return their mattress pay a return fee. So it helps keep our costs down and helps keep us in business!

What is the return policy?

Different products have different return policies, so please see our returns page here for more detailed information – https://sleepez.com/pages/returns-and-exchange-policies

Warranty

The warranty allows for a 1.5" impression in the latex, not associated with a faulty foundation, box spring, platform, or cover.

Our representative shall make the final determination regarding repair or replacement.

How long is your warranty and what does it cover?

We offer a 20 year (10 year non-prorated) warranty and a 90-day return policy on our Select Sleep models. This warranty covers manufacturing defects, as well as premature breakdown of the latex. The Roma, Hybrid mattresses, and RV mattress have a 10 year warranty that covers 1.5” of body impressions. DIY mattresses (where you build your own mattresses from the topper and cover pages) are not covered under any warranty.

How do I make use of the warranty if I think my Sleep EZ mattress is defective?

Keep your original invoice. This will be needed for any warranty issues.

Notify our warranty department at 480-966-8785 or support@sleepez.com and you will receive instructions on warranty procedures.

What is the warranty?

Sleep EZ Company

How long have you been in business?

Sleep EZ started in 1976, as a family owned manufacturer / factory direct. With 47 years under our belt, we are on our 3rd generation.

Care

Can I sleep directly on my Sleep EZ mattress?

You can, but you should always use sheets (and ideally a protector too). You’ll get the most out of your Sleep EZ mattress by washing or changing your sheets weekly and by unzipping the cover and giving it a gentle shake occasionally.

Can I place my mattress on the floor?

Yes. An all-latex mattress requires a solid and sturdy foundation, therefore the floor is acceptable to be used as your foundation.

Do I need to air the mattress?

In most cases you will not need to air out your mattress. Due to latex being a derivative of rubber trees, latex can have a subtle rubber odor. However this natural latex odor will dissipate within 1-2 weeks.

When handling the latex during mattress assembly, the slight odor will be more apparent. Most customers no longer notice this odor once the latex is encased in the cover.

Under no circumstances should you ever place your latex layers outdoors to air. If you want to air your latex layers we suggest unzipping the cover and cracking a window for a bit while the mattress is not in use.

Do I need to flip or rotate my latex layers?

Latex foam has a very durable cell structure, and is much more resilient compared to that of most other foams. It will not break-down in areas of repeated use like poly or memory foam will, therefore latex does not need to be flipped or rotated. However, if you want to flip or rotate the layers you certainly can.

Can I clean the cover?

Do not machine wash or dry the cover because it will shrink. We recommend you spot clean with a soft brush and mild detergent. Allow the air to dry completely.

  • Medium – 30-32
  • Firm – 37-40
  • X Firm - 44
What is the cover made of?

Our Select Sleep and Hybrid models are equipped with a cotton and wool cover. This cover is 100% all cotton, padded with 1” of wool. The Roma mattress contains a cotton cover only, there is no wool in the cover.

Will the mattress smell or off-gas?

Some customers notice a subtle brand-new latex odor for a few days, but this dissipates quickly. This is a natural odor of rubber and is not off-gassing. All of our latex is Oeko-Tex certified to verify that our latex is free of any off-gassing, harmful chemicals, and harmful toxins.

Do you use flame retardants in your mattress?

We use wool as a natural fire barrier. We do not add any artificial flame retardants to our mattresses.

Can I have a sample of the latex or cover fabric?

You can request latex and cover samples. Simply email us at Support@SleepEZ.com, or call our office at 800-710-9846 to order your samples.

Can each side of bed be a different firmness?

Yes, Queen/King/Cal. King sizes offer the option to split the latex layers in half. For the Natural and Organic mattress, you may split and select any of the firmness levels for either side of the mattress (left or right). The 360 Hybrid allows the option to split the top 3” layer only.

Can the Sleep EZ mattress fold?

Yes. Latex contours better than any foam on the market, which makes it ideal for adjustable bases.

What is the weight capacity of the Sleep EZ mattress?

All weights can be accommodated on the Organic and Natural mattresses, please see our configuration simulator to determine the proper layer configuration for your latex mattress. For the Hybrid, 360 Hybrid, Roma, and RV mattresses, we recommend a weight limit of 240 pounds for proper support. Although we have customers over that weight that have found these mattresses to be perfect for them, that’s more of an exception than a rule.

How do I unpack the mattress?

We offer step by step instructions here on our website on how to unpack and assemble your mattress. Should you have further questions, please call our office at 800-710-9846, and we will be happy to assist you.

Where can I try this out? Do you have a retail or store location?

Our factory showroom is located at 900 N Scottsdale Rd in Tempe, AZ.

Is the SleepEZ mattress safe?

Latex is a high-quality, non off-gassing natural foam that has unique and unparalleled features. These include latex being anti-microbial, dust mite and mildew resistant as well as being naturally breathable. This makes for a very safe and healthy sleeping surface for adults and children alike.

Foundations

What type of bed frame should I use with the mattress?

A standard metal bed frame will suffice. The mattress should be placed directly on a solid and sturdy foundation. This can include a slatted wood foundation, which would be placed on a metal bed frame, or a solid platform foundation. For queen size mattresses and larger, you want to make sure the frame and foundation have center supports holding up the middle of the mattress.

What do you mean by "platform," "slatted," "slats," "foundation," etc.?

Platform Bed Frame - Platform bed frames come in a variety of styles, and they either feature horizontal slats (think planks, usually wooden) or a solid platform for the mattress to rest on.

Slatted Bed Frame - A slatted bed frame is another way of saying platform frame and gets its name from the characteristic horizontal slats that support the mattress.

Slats - Slats are the planks that are usually placed horizontally on a slatted or platform frame. Their purpose is to support the mattress and their function is analogous to that of a box spring.

Solid Foundation - A solid foundation provides the support of a platform frame or slats, though it looks very much like a box spring and is used the same way: metal frame + solid foundation + mattress. Most modern box springs are solid or slatted foundations.

Does the SleepEZ mattress need a box spring?

Latex mattresses require a solid and sturdy foundation with no springs. This can include slatted wood foundations and platform bases.

What type of foundation can I use with this mattress?

Anything solid and sturdy will work just fine. The only types of foundations you want to avoid are slatted foundations where the gaps are more than 3" apart or box springs (with actual springs in them). If you live in a very high humidity area, a slatted foundation will reduce the chances of getting mold on the mattress cover.

What type of bed frame / setup can I use the wood foundation on?

Our foundations have a universal design that can be used with any mattress and bed frame. However, for queen foundations and larger, you want to be sure your bed frame has a center support to protect the structural integrity of the foundation and the mattress you’re using it with.

Adjustable Beds

Does the Sleep EZ mattress work on an adjustable bed frame?

The most contouring mattresses for adjustable beds are latex mattresses. Any of our models will work on an adjustable bed frame.

What is the white glove service and does it include mattress assembly?

The white glove service is provided by XPO Logistics. It may take up to 2 - 4 weeks until the order is delivered via the white glove service, and please note that the delivery people will likely not be wearing white gloves. They are required to put on booties on request. During the process the local delivery agency will contact you to set up a time to come to your home and assemble your order, although they will not assemble anything that they don’t deliver themselves, so they wouldn’t be able to assemble a frame or anything else you didn’t purchase from us. There is a charge of $199 for this service.

What type of bed frame / setup can I use the adjustable base on?

These adjustable bases have a universal design that can be used with any mattress and bed frame, even on a platform bed! We don’t recommend using the adjustable base with a slatted foundation because the legs might fall into the slats. We recommend going to Home Depot or Lowes to purchase a ¾” or 1” piece of plywood to put over the slats. If you decide to take your slats out, please consider that the slats normally rest on a lip, and that lip may need to be taken out as well.

If you have only a headboard, you may want to order a headboard bracket kit from us or from Ergomotion. If you have a headboard, footboard, and side rails, then you do not need a headboard bracket kit.

Bedding

What kind of sheets will fit my Sleep EZ mattress?

Standard bed sheets will fit the 7,000, 9,000 and 10,000 models. You may need to purchase deep-fitted sheets for the 13,000 and Hybrid models.

Should I use a mattress protector?

Our mattress covers are not water resistant nor are they machine washable; therefore using a mattress protector can help prolong the life of your mattress, protecting it from spills, as well as dirt or allergens. We suggest using a mattress protector with your Sleep EZ Mattress especially if children or pets are using the mattress.

What types of mattress protectors are there?

There are three basic types of mattress protective covers: encasement, fitted-sheet and pads. The encasement protector completely covers the entire mattress. The sheet style protector fits your mattress like a fitted sheet. Both styles of protector are popular with people who suffer from allergies. Please keep in mind that anything you have between yourself and the latex affects the way you sink into the latex, making for a slightly firmer feel. The thicker the material, the firmer the feel it will give to the mattress, so please keep this in mind when choosing pads or protectors.

Can I use the Sleep EZ mattress with a heating pad?

Yes, you can safely use a heating pad as long as your mattress is encased in our cotton quilted wool cover. Due to the fact that extreme heat can be damaging to latex, we do not recommend using a heating pad on our topper with the 4 way stretch cotton cover as it is thinner and the heat will damage the latex.
